Be careful of some animals on Reunion island !

As you can guess, animals on a tropical island in Indian Ocean could surprise you. Moreover, you better be careful of some of them.

In fact, those who could be more dangerous than other are localited in the sea.

• Stone-fishes can bite or sting you, in that case you will have to go in emercengy service.

• Sharks on Reunion Island sometimes attack bathers, even in the edges of coastlines. By the way, the last attack happened in February 2017, when a young man died.

  That’s why it’s really important to pay attention on where you’re gonna take a bath : only take bath in authorised areas !

There are also others animals which could be dangerous but not that much :

• Corals can also be quite dangerous, but you just have to pay attention on where you’re gonna walk in the sea.

• Sea urchin can also sting you if you walk on it or touch it but it has no venom.

• On the contrary, centipede can be dangerous due to its venom.

Besides, there are some animals which could afraid you but they are however harmless :

• At the night you may see bats flying but there will be not danger.

• Some very big spiders exist also, but they don’t bite or anything.

• Same for cockroaches, which are very common on Reunion island.

• Lizards are also very common, but you can completely touch them or take them in your hands if you’re not afraid.

Same for chameleon.

• There is also a sort of lizar which is called « margouillat », and which is probably the most common animal on the island, actually you will certainly see it on the walls in every house. They could be frightening because of their appearance or because of the very weird noise they make but they are also inoffensive.

• Grass snakes exist also on Reunion island, but as you know they are not venomous. Unlike scorpions.

• Nevertheless mosquitoes would certainly be your most fear because they are of course very embarassing but not dangerous (even if they can transmit diseases such as the Chikungunya when there’s an epedemic).

We advise you to take with you some repulsives or creams against it. You can also find repulsive spirals.

So, as you saw, you better be forewarned and specially advised before you come on our island. In that way everything’s gonna be alright.

Of course, you will meet much more nice animals during your journey.
